Bamboo: Renewable, Recyclable and Biodegradable
Bamboo flooring is a true gem in modern sustainable interior design. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth, growing up to 6” per day, making it a very sustainable and renewable material. It is as strong as oak hardwood and comes in solid or hand-scraped finishes and five colors. Our bamboo flooring is made with non-toxic glue and comes with a 25 year warranty. Check out our Bamboo section to explore the endless possibilities with this renewable wonder-plant.
Bamboo is an affordable “green” flooring choice with many distinct advantages.
• 10%-15% harder than oak
• Termite and rot resistant
• Easy to clean
• 20% more dimensionally stable than hardwoods
• A highly renewable resource as it is the fastest growing plant on Earth
• Produces 30% more oxygen than a hardwood forest of comparable size
• Helps reduce carbon dioxide gases that cause global warming
• Easy to install over numerous types of sub-flooring
• Non toxic adhesive used and contributes to LEED rating system
• Tensile strength of steel and able to take greater impacts without denting

Colors – The two basic colors are natural and carbonized. The difference is that the carbonized has been heated which makes it 10% softer than the natural bamboo.
Grains – The grain runs horizontal or vertical. The horizontal grain shows the nodules of the bamboo and the vertical does not.
Styles
Engineered - Engineered bamboo, which is ideal for concrete sub-floors and basements because it can be floated and is very stable.
Hand-Scraped (or Antique Flooring) – The manufacturers of this consider it art as much as flooring. It is a solid or engineered bamboo floor with a textured top layer. This process takes longer to produce. This is a very popular choice for replicating older, classical buildings and is available in a variety of colors.
Strand Woven – is created by heating long strips of bamboo, weaving them together and then laminating them under extreme heat and pressure. The result is twice as hard as red oak and is more stable.
Traditional Solid – bamboo is made of whole strips of bamboo, either vertical or horizontal. It can be used anywhere.
Countertops and Other Uses
Bamboo may also be utilized for countertops, furniture and wall covering
As a countertop, you can get slabs in a vertical, flat or parquet grain in multiple colors. They are 16% harder than maple, bamboo is clearly the best choice for durable countertop surfaces, as well as construction stock for bookcases, table legs, architectural accents, etc. Backsplashes are available, as well as an edge, which can be applied to other countertop materials.
The solid parquet counter tops are laminated with a completely non-toxic, food grade, and most importantly, formaldehyde free adhesive. The adhesive is so safe that you can even prepare food directly on the counter surface. The vertical grain and flat grain models utilize this same adhesive on both sides of the cutting surface. The Multilam(TM) core in these models emit a maximum of 0.03 ppm of formaldehyde, this level is far lower than required by OSHA (USA) E1 (European) CARB phase 1 and 2 and the Japanese JIS/JAS (F**). This adhesive is not used on the food contact surfaces. The adhesive used is a completely non-toxic, food grade, formaldehyde free adhesive.
“Builders like bamboo for its stability, homeowner’s love its aesthetic beauty and with forests shrinking worldwide, everyone appreciates bamboo’s rapid renewability.”
